In the afternoon of September 23, 2014, a tragic event unfolded in Phoenix, Arizona, that would take the life of 19-year-old Pedro Antunez-Andrade. At approximately 1:40 p.m., Phoenix police officers were dispatched to the vicinity of 9800 North 9th Avenue following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a young man, Antunez-Andrade, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly pointed to a primary suspect: a
15-year-old named Iram Quintana. Despite establishing probable cause and issuing an arrest warrant, authorities faced a significant challenge as they believed Quintana had fled to Mexico to evade capture. For nearly a decade, the case remained cold as attempts by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office and the U.S. Marshal's Office to locate him were unsuccessful.
A break in the long-dormant case finally came on the morning of April 16, 2024. Phoenix police officers, responding to a trespassing call at an abandoned property near 12500 North 28th Drive, encountered Iram Quintana, who was then 25 years old. He was taken into custody without incident and subsequently booked into jail on a charge of second-degree murder, bringing a long-awaited development in the near-decade-old homicide case.
