On the evening of February 13, 2015, in Adams, Massachusetts, the life of 27-year-old Michael C. Jimenez came to a tragic end. Members of the state police Community Action Team had learned that Jimenez, who had outstanding arrest warrants from Hampden Superior Court and Springfield District Court, was at his residence at 7 Cherry Street.
As troopers were let into the home to find him, a single gunshot was heard from the second floor.
Upon cautiously making their way upstairs, they discovered Jimenez deceased from what was determined to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The time of the incident was approximately 9 p.m.
The scene on the steep, narrow street was one of heavy police presence, with both Adams Police and state police responding. Initial scanner reports indicated a possible "active shooter" situation, causing alarm in the quiet neighborhood as police urged residents to stay indoors. During the course of the events, a young child was safely removed from the house by police and taken from the area in an ambulance. The investigation into the death of Michael Jimenez involved the State Police Ballistics and Crime Scene Services Sections. No arrests were made, and there were no other suspects in connection with his death.
