On the Fourth of July in 2015, a day meant for celebration, tragedy struck the life of 41-year-old Hispanic female, Mirta Rivera, in her Lawrence, Massachusetts home. In the early morning hours, while Rivera was asleep in her bed, a bullet tore through the ceiling from the apartment above, striking her in the abdomen. Her boyfriend discovered her and immediately called for help. Rushed to Lawrence General Hospital, Rivera succumbed to the fatal gunshot wound.
