In the early morning hours of January 27, 2018, the body of 41-year-old Jermaine Taylor of East Falmouth, a male, was discovered alongside General Patton Drive in Hyannis, Massachusetts. A Barnstable police officer on patrol noticed what initially appeared to be a person passed out on the sidewalk around 2:27 a.m. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that Taylor had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency medical technicians arrived at the scene and immediately began
life-saving measures, including constant chest compressions, as Taylor's heart did not appear to be beating on its own. He was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead. The Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office confirmed that the case was being investigated as a homicide by both the Barnstable Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the office.
At the time of the initial investigation, authorities did not release an exact manner of death or any information regarding a possible motive. No arrests were announced in the immediate aftermath of the discovery of Taylor's body.
