In the late hours of an autumn evening in Boston, a burst of gunfire shattered the night, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. On October 6, 2021, 25-year-old Diamante Nicholson, a Black / African American male, was fatally shot while sitting in a car on Walk Hill Street in the Mattapan neighborhood. The Boston Police Department responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 10:55 p.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered Nicholson suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting revealed a scene of intense violence. Law enforcement officials reported that the city's ShotSpotter system detected as many as 25 rounds fired at the location of the incident. This hail of bullets ended the life of the young Mattapan resident, leaving behind a grieving family and a community searching for answers. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner later officially ruled Nicholson's death a homicide.
In the days following the shooting, the Boston Police Department publicly identified Diamante Nicholson as the victim and appealed to the community for assistance in solving the crime. Despite their calls for witnesses and any information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case, the investigation has not yet resulted in any publicly announced arrests or the naming of any suspects. The death of Diamante Nicholson is currently listed as one of the city's unsolved homicides from 2021.
