In the early morning hours of November 9, 2021, Gregorios Gregory Grantsis, a 36-year-old White male from Brockton, Massachusetts, was tragically killed. The incident unfolded at approximately 1:36 a.m. near 69 Tremont Street in Brockton, where police responded to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered a 2007 Mazda 3 stopped in the middle of the road.
Outside the vehicle, they found Grantsis suffering from a gunshot wound to the face, along with another male victim who had been shot in the leg and torso. A third person in the car was unharmed. Grantsis was rushed to Brockton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m.
Known to his friends and family as "Greg" or "Flea," Grantsis was remembered as a charismatic and kind-hearted man with a great love for his family. He was a proud father to his daughter, Kaylee, and his infant son, Gregorios Jr. A skilled mechanic, he worked for many years at his family's business, Bill's Auto Repair, and was known as a "Jack of all Trades" who was always ready to help others. He was deeply proud of his Greek heritage and was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many in the Brockton community where he had lived his entire life.
The investigation into the homicide led by the Massachusetts State Police and Brockton Police resulted in the arrests of four individuals. Brothers Shamallah Jones, 26, and Rula Jones, 27, were both charged with murder. Shamallah Jones, of Dorchester, faced additional charges including attempted murder and various firearms offenses. Rula Jones was arrested in Weymouth. Their mother, Vanessa Jones, 55, of Brockton, was charged with witness intimidation. A fourth person, 26-year-old Ashley Severino of Boston, was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder and witness intimidation.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office announced the indictments and arrests, bringing charges against the four individuals for their alleged roles in the shooting that ended Gregorios Grantsis's life and injured another. The case moved forward with arraignments in Brockton Superior Court, as a family and community were left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a man described as having a heart bigger than himself.
