In the autumn of 1909, the life of Thomas M. Eckhart, a 55-year-old male, came to an abrupt and violent end in Salem, Oregon. On Friday, October 1, Eckhart, a Patrolman with the Salem Police Department, was in the process of arresting a man for whom he believed there was an outstanding warrant.
