In a quiet, snow-covered neighborhood in La Pine, Oregon, the life of 19-year-old Brandi Ann Francine Schopper, a Caucasian female, was tragically cut short on December 21, 2016. The day's horrific events unfolded inside a mobile home, turning a place of residence into a scene of violence that would claim two lives and leave another person critically injured.
The incident was the culmination of a domestic dispute that had already brought law enforcement to the home a day prior.
On that Wednesday morning, a heated argument between 56-year-old Jeffrey Randle Ford and his 20-year-old son, Jeffrey Thunder Ford, escalated with deadly consequences. At approximately 11:05 a.m., the younger Ford placed a frantic 911 call, reporting that his father was pointing a gun at him. During that call, the elder Ford fired his 9mm handgun, striking his son in the chest. He then turned the weapon on his son's girlfriend, Brandi Schopper, shooting her multiple times.
Despite his life-threatening injuries, the younger Ford managed to escape the house and seek help. Neighbors found him bleeding in the frozen street and wrapped him in a sleeping bag until Deschutes County Sheriff's deputies arrived. He was airlifted to a hospital in Bend, where he underwent surgery and was expected to recover. Inside the home, however, Brandi Schopper had succumbed to her injuries and was found deceased in a bedroom.
After shooting his son and Brandi, Jeffrey Randle Ford initially went to a motor home parked in the yard before returning to the house. He was later found in the front room, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound from a semi-automatic pistol. A subsequent search of the home by investigators revealed multiple guns and ammunition throughout the residence, painting a grim picture of the events that transpired. The tragic incident was ultimately ruled a murder-suicide by the authorities.
