In the early hours of June 11, 2020, tragedy struck in Portland, Oregon, claiming the life of DeAnnzello McDonald, a 28-year-old Black male. At approximately 12:35 a.m., Portland Police Bureau officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Northeast 162nd Avenue following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered McDonald's body. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that he died from a gunshot wound and ruled his death a homicide.
Investigators have worked to
piece together the events leading to McDonald's death. Surveillance footage from the scene showed McDonald walking up a flight of stairs accompanied by two other men. A fourth individual was then seen running towards them. Shortly after, this fourth man was observed running away from the scene, holding something in his right hand. This individual is considered a suspect in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have released a description of the suspect, believing him to be a young Black man in his mid-20s, standing around 6 feet tall with a thin frame and possibly braided hair. He was last seen wearing a light, multi-colored jacket, dark or black pants, and a light-colored hat. The suspect was also seen getting into a blue or gray Ford Crown Victoria.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with DeAnnzello McDonald's murder. The case remains unsolved, and in an effort to generate new leads, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. Law enforcement continues to seek assistance from the public to bring closure to McDonald's family.
