In the quiet community of Cave Junction, Oregon, a distressing series of events unfolded on December 7, 2020, culminating in the tragic death of 70-year-old Sandra Reynolds. The day began with a sense of alarm when a neighbor alerted the Josephine County Emergency Dispatch that Reynolds, a female resident, had fled her home at 400 Pinewood Way without her phone, indicating that something was wrong. This urgent call for help set in motion a response that would last for hours and end in heartbreak.
The situation quickly escalated as it became clear that Reynolds was in grave danger. Her roommate, 56-year-old Donald Guest, was identified as being involved. As law enforcement arrived on the scene, the incident developed into a tense standoff. Specialized units, including the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety and the Oregon State Police SWAT Team, were called in to manage the crisis. Negotiators, assisted by mental health professionals, made attempts to communicate with Guest, hoping to convince him to release Reynolds or surrender peacefully.
