In the early morning hours of September 19, 2021, a night out in downtown Bend, Oregon, turned fatal for 22-year-old Barry Washington Jr., a Black man who had recently moved to the area. The tragic events unfolded outside The Capitol, a local nightclub, culminating in a single gunshot that ended Washington's life. The man who fired the weapon, Ian MacKenzie Cranston, a white man, was arrested in connection with the shooting.
