On the very first day of 2022, the life of Andre Lashun Foster, a 43-year-old Black/African American man, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. The new year was less than two hours old when violence erupted in the Argay Terrace neighborhood of Northeast Portland, Oregon. In the early morning hours of January 1st, at approximately 1:47 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of Northeast 131st Place following reports of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a
grim scene with three male victims. Andre Lashun Foster was one of two who sustained fatal injuries. He and his 21-year-old nephew, Quayan Johnell Foster, were both killed in the incident. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that both men died from gunshot wounds and ruled their deaths as homicides. A third man was also shot but survived his injuries, which were considered non-life-threatening.
The shooting cast a somber shadow over the city as it marked the first homicides of the new year. The incident happened at an apartment complex near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and 131st Place, a location that would see further fatal violence in the weeks to follow. In the immediate aftermath, police secured the area and began their investigation, but the person or people responsible had fled the scene.
As of today, the murders of Andre Lashun Foster and his nephew remain unsolved. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with their deaths. The Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit has continued to investigate the case, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough. A reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest, but the case continues to be a painful and unresolved tragedy for the Foster family and the Portland community.
