In the quiet evening of March 27, 2022, the life of 25-year-old Timothy Fowlkes was tragically cut short. Responding to reports of gunshots, Gresham Police arrived at the Money Saver Mini Storage on Northeast Halsey Street to a grim discovery. Fowlkes was found on the ground, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the medical examiner later ruled his death a homicide.
The investigation into Fowlkes's death quickly pointed to a suspect,
39-year-old Michael Stockton. The Gresham Police Department, along with the East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team, began a search for Stockton. The tragic series of events took another turn four days later, on March 31.
Law enforcement officers, including a Columbia County deputy and an Oregon State Police officer, responded to a disturbance call at Grumpy's Towing in Scappoose. There, they encountered Stockton. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Stockton fired multiple shots at the officers. The officers returned fire, killing Stockton at the scene. Investigators later found that Stockton was in possession of two firearms.
