Bruce Thompson Brown was a 25-year-old White male and a trooper with the West Virginia State Police when a routine prisoner-booking procedure in Tucker County turned deadly on October 14, 1977. Brown had been with the state police for less than a year and was assigned to the Parsons Detachment. A later local history identified him as originally from Charles Town, West Virginia, where he had previously served on the municipal police force.
