On a cold day in Eskdale, West Virginia, the life of Joey Rose, a 37-year-old Caucasian male, came to a violent end. On February 2, 2018, Rose was fatally shot, an event that would lead to a swift investigation and the arrest of a suspect. The man charged in connection with Rose's death was 27-year-old Gary Anderson Murphy.
According to accounts of the incident, the shooting was the culmination of a period of harassment. It has been alleged that for at least two weeks leading up to the fatal encounter, Murphy and his friends had been actively chasing and tracking Joey Rose. On that fateful February day, they reportedly located Rose, and what began as a physical fight escalated dramatically. It is claimed that Murphy pulled out a gun and shot Rose multiple times in the back.
After Rose fell, Murphy allegedly stood over him and fired two more fatal shots.
Following the shooting, Gary Anderson Murphy reportedly waited at the scene, with the weapon still in his possession, until law enforcement arrived. He was subsequently arrested and, based on the evidence gathered by the Kanawha County Sheriff's office, was charged with murder. Despite the serious nature of the charge, Murphy was released from jail in less than a month on a $75,000 bond and was placed on home confinement to await his trial.
