At the time of the incident, law enforcement was already searching for Wesley Alan Wayne due to outstanding felony warrants against him. These warrants included charges related to domestic battery, as well as the theft of a vehicle from Braxton County and a stolen gun. The police were in the process of serving these warrants when they responded to the scene of the double-homicide.
The response to the incident involved multiple agencies, including the Bridgeport Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, Harrison County EMS, the Anmoore Fire Department, and the Spelter Fire Department. The investigation confirmed that the deaths resulted from single gunshot wounds, leading authorities to conclude that Wayne was the perpetrator who then took his own life.
