In the early morning hours of October 11, 2017, the community of Red Oak, Iowa, was shaken by the discovery of a body lying in the street. The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Devin Alexander Davis, a White male known to be a resident of the area. An investigation swiftly determined that Davis had died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Authorities began to piece together the events leading to his death and learned that Davis had been involved in a confrontation earlier that morning. This altercation ultimately led to the fatal shooting. The investigation pointed to one individual, and soon after, an arrest was made in connection with the homicide.
Kevin Duane Staley, a 39-year-old man, was taken into custody and charged with voluntary manslaughter for his alleged involvement in Devin Alexander Davis's death. Staley was subsequently held at the Montgomery County jail. Davis, a graduate of Red Oak High School, was remembered as a father who adored his son. He had a passion for music, singing and writing for his band, "The Midwest Doomdawg." He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and camping.
