On a warm spring evening in Davenport, Iowa, the life of 16-year-old Jovontia "Jovi" Jones, a Black or African American male, was tragically cut short. On May 19, 2018, Jones was the victim of a drive-by shooting in the parking lot of the Hilltop Liquor Store on Harrison Street. The shots rang out around 6:55 p.m., and though he was rushed to a nearby hospital and later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, May 20, 2018.
