In the early morning hours of Friday, October 22, 2021, the life of 21-year-old Kalvyn Roy Kline was tragically cut short in Des Moines, Iowa. The male victim was killed in a shooting on the east side of the city, an event that marked the city's ninth homicide of the year. Kalvyn, born on July 29, 2000, was a devoted father and husband who enjoyed spending his time outdoors, riding his bike, fishing, and listening to music.

The Des Moines Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting which occurred on Hull Avenue. Their investigation led to the identification of a suspect, 29-year-old Darren Antwon Diggs of Des Moines. Diggs was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Kalvyn's death.
After a thorough legal process, a Polk County jury convicted Darren Antwon Diggs of first-degree murder on March 29, 2024. The conviction brought a measure of closure to a case that had been ongoing for over two years. Evidence presented during the trial included ballistics matching a handgun owned by Diggs to shell casings found at the scene, as well as inconsistencies in his statements to the police. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison. While justice was served in a legal sense, the untimely death of Kalvyn Roy Kline remains a profound loss to his family, including his wife and two children, and friends.
