In the early morning hours of November 7, 2021, a sequence of events unfolded in Des Moines, Iowa, that culminated in the tragic death of 15-year-old Isaiah Fernandez-Smith, a Hispanic male. Near Evelyn K. Davis Park, a confrontation took place that would end with Isaiah suffering a fatal gunshot wound. He succumbed to his injuries two days later.
