In the early summer of 1982, a young White man named Marty James Shook embarked on a journey that would tragically be his last. At 21 years old, he was an experienced hitchhiker, and on June 12, he left his mother's home in Sparks, Nevada, with his backpack and bedroll, intending to make his way to Colorado to find work.
