In the quiet community of Holladay, Utah, a sad event unfolded in early November 2013, leaving family and friends to grapple with a profound loss. Mildred T. Clayton-Kunz, a White 78-year-old woman, was found deceased in her home on November 13, 2013. Her death was the result of a gunshot wound. The last time anyone had spoken with her or her husband was around the end of October or the beginning of November. Concern grew among family members after not hearing from the couple for some time. This led them to request a welfare check at their residence.
Upon arriving at the home, officers were unable to get a response and were forced to enter the house. Inside, they made a grim discovery; both Mildred and her 79-year-old husband, Larry P. Kunz, were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators from the Unified Police Department worked through the night to process the scene. Evidence found at the residence, including a firearm located near Larry Kunz, led detectives to believe the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide. It is believed that Larry Kunz shot his wife before turning the gun on himself.
