On a Thursday afternoon in Holladay, Utah, 63-year-old Linda Edwards Elliott was found dead in her home in what authorities determined to be a murder-suicide. The date was March 9, 2006, which was also her 63rd birthday. She was a female who had recently moved back to the area from San Diego to be closer to her family.
Police identified the man responsible for her death as 55-year-old Craig A. Stephens. Investigators believe Stephens went to Elliott's home, shot her, and then turned the gun on himself. The discovery was made after a concerned family member, unable to reach Elliott, contacted the police and requested a welfare check. Upon their arrival at the residence, officers found both Elliott and Stephens deceased from gunshot wounds.
Further investigation revealed that Elliott and Stephens had been involved in both a personal and business relationship. They were partners in a credit-counseling business, which had recently failed. Authorities believe the dissolution of their business and personal relationship was the motive behind the tragic events. No arrests were made as the case was closed as a murder-suicide.
