On October 14, 2014, in the small town of Hyrum, Utah, a domestic conflict culminated in the death of 37-year-old Robert Van Hemert. The male victim was fatally shot during a confrontation with his brother-in-law, Aaron Smith. The events of that day were rooted in ongoing issues Van Hemert was having with his wife.
