On the night of October 21, 2016, Christian Gutierrez-Marquez, a 33-year-old Hispanic male, was at a car wash on Redwood Road in Salt Lake City, Utah, washing his car. An altercation occurred between Gutierrez-Marquez and an unknown man, which tragically ended with the man fatally shooting him.
Following the shooting, the suspect stole Gutierrez-Marquez's vehicle.
The car was discovered approximately five hours later, having been set on fire and abandoned not far from the scene of the crime.
Salt Lake City Police Department detectives began an investigation and released surveillance photos to the public in the hopes of identifying the suspect. The man was described as possibly Hispanic and was seen wearing a gray or light-colored hoodie, athletic pants, and shoes with reflective material. Authorities also announced they were looking for a white, four-door vehicle that may have been connected to the homicide and was possibly driven by a Caucasian woman. The police asked for the public's help in identifying the suspect, but to date, no arrests have been made in the case, and it remains an unsolved homicide.
