On the night of May 16, 2012, Ashley “Miracle” Armstrong, a 20-year-old Black woman, was fatally shot in New Haven, Connecticut. Remembered for her bright smile and positive attitude, Ashley was a certified nursing assistant and a student at Naugatuck Valley Community College. On that particular evening, she was in New Haven visiting friends.
Shortly after midnight, Ashley was driving her black Volkswagen Jetta with four friends near the intersection of Shelton Avenue and Munson
Street. It was then that an unknown assailant opened fire on her vehicle. Struck multiple times, Ashley managed to drive about a block and a half away before her car came to a stop. She was the only person in the car who was injured. Emergency services transported her to the Hospital of St. Raphael, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators do not believe Ashley was the intended target of the shooting. Her case is considered a cold case, but police have stated they continue to investigate. A significant challenge in solving her murder has been the lack of cooperation from potential witnesses. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting. Her family continues to seek answers and closure in her unsolved homicide.
