In the early morning hours of July 6, 2014, a holiday weekend was shattered by violence in Bridgeport, Connecticut, resulting in the death of 23-year-old Abraham Davidson. A lifelong resident of the city, Davidson was on Barnum Avenue when he was fatally shot. Friends and family recalled him being on a porch, laughing and smoking a cigarette, just moments before the incident. His sister remembered him as a father, a best friend, and a role model.
He was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The shooting occurred shortly after 2:00 a.m. and was one of two homicides to take place in the city's East Side within a 75-minute span. At the time of his death, Abraham had only been out of prison for about ten days. He had a known history with law enforcement and in 2011, was sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement in a 2009 shooting incident that involved rival gangs at a movie theater in nearby Trumbull. Police officials stated that Davidson was "very well-known" to them and believed he was the intended target of the shooting.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Bridgeport's police chief indicated that they had "very good leads" in the investigation into Davidson's death. A memorial was soon erected on Barnum Avenue where he was killed, with friends and neighbors gathering to mourn his passing. Despite the initial optimism from law enforcement, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in the murder of Abraham Davidson.
