In the early morning hours of December 7, 2014, a domestic dispute in Bridgeport, Connecticut, turned fatal, ending the life of 33-year-old Jacob Lopez. The incident unfolded outside a pickup truck, leaving Lopez with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Responding police officers found Lopez, who, on his way to the hospital, identified his girlfriend, Griselle Pizarro, as the person who had shot him. Lopez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital a few hours later.
This marked the city's 11th homicide of the year.
The investigation quickly led detectives to Pizarro, who was located at her residence and taken into custody. During questioning, she admitted to shooting Lopez, claiming that he had physically assaulted her while they were sitting in the pickup truck. Pizarro alleged that during the assault, she retrieved a handgun from her purse and fired several shots. Neighbors reported that the couple had a history of arguments and had recently separated.
Griselle Pizarro, who was 36 at the time, was arrested and charged with murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm. Her bond was set at $500,000. Reports also indicated that there was a history of domestic abuse in the couple's rocky relationship.
