On July 12, 2014, at approximately 4:55 a.m., Hartford police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting near 20 Auburn Street, in the city's north end, known as the Five Corners neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers found 28-year-old Tyshawn R. Crawford suffering from two gunshot wounds—one to the neck and another to the upper chest. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where, despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 5:50 a.m.
