In the autumn of 2014, a life was cut tragically short on the streets of Bridgeport, Connecticut. One individual from that group proceeded to follow Robertson for about a block before opening fire, striking him multiple times. Mortally wounded, he was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into Davon Robertson's death moved swiftly. Within 24 hours of the homicide, Bridgeport detectives had identified and arrested a suspect. Nasir Hargett, an 18-year-old senior at a local technical high school, was taken into custody on the morning of October 14, 2014. He was charged with murder and held on a $1 million bond. The swift arrest was praised by the police chief as 'outstanding work' aimed at bringing justice to the victim's family. The arraignment of Hargett was a tense affair, with family members of both Robertson and Hargett having an angry confrontation outside the courtroom, which was de-escalated by judicial marshals.
In May 2017, Nasir Hargett, then 21, was sentenced for the murder of Davon Robertson. A judge sentenced him to 45 years in prison. During the trial, it was revealed that Hargett had used a sawed-off rifle to shoot Robertson. An eyewitness testified that Hargett fired three times, hitting Robertson in the leg and chest, before simply walking away. The prosecutor in the case stated that the murder was senseless, noting that Robertson was walking down the street drinking a soda when he was followed and killed without any preceding dispute or argument.
