Melvin Cook, a 16-year-old, was shot and killed on June 17, 2016, in the West Englewood neighborhood of Chicago. Melvin was standing in an alley when he was approached by someone who opened fire, striking him multiple times. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooting took place during a particularly violent weekend in Chicago, with numerous shootings reported across the city.
