On the evening of March 4, 2020, a young Black / African American man's life was cut short in Hartford, Connecticut. Anthony Swaby, a 25-year-old male, was discovered inside a car on Holcomb Street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The sound of the gunfire had been heard by an on-duty police officer who was about five blocks away from the scene.
Emergency services were called and Swaby was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Anthony's death marked the fifth homicide in the city of Hartford for the year 2020. In the wake of the tragedy, the community came together to mourn the loss of a young life. Mothers United Against Violence organized a candlelight vigil on Holcomb Street, the very place where Swaby's life was taken, to bring comfort to his grieving family and to make a plea for an end to the violence that had plagued their community.
Despite the initial investigation and the community's calls for justice, no suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Anthony Swaby. The case, like many others in the city, remains unsolved, leaving a family without answers and a community still searching for peace. The Hartford Police Department's investigation into the shooting is presumably still open, but there has been no new public information released regarding any potential leads or persons of interest.
