On the evening of June 20, 2021, a young Black/African American man named Yhameek Johnson, age 18, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on Mill Ridge Road in Danbury, Connecticut. It was Father's Day, and some reports indicated Johnson, a recent high school graduate, was on his way to a party to celebrate the holiday. Around 8 p.m., multiple calls reporting gunshots in the area flooded the Danbury Police Department.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound to his back, being cared for by concerned neighbors. Police rendered aid until paramedics arrived and transported him to Danbury Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation that followed pointed to a dark-colored SUV with New York plates being involved in the fatal shooting. Family and friends, grieving the loss of a young man they said had a smile that could light up a room, held a vigil to mourn him. Investigators began to piece together the events of that night, suggesting the shooting was not a random act of violence but was connected to an ongoing feud between rival groups in the area. This tragic event cut short the life of a teenager who enjoyed playing football and basketball.
Within weeks, the investigation led to arrests. On July 2, 2021, police charged 17-year-old Elvis Agramonte with murder and a host of other charges in connection with Johnson's death. At the time the arrest warrant was issued, Agramonte was already in custody at a juvenile detention center. Later, a second teenager, a 17-year-old from Stratford, was also arrested and faced charges including larceny and hindering prosecution for his role in the incident. In May 2024, Elvis Agramonte, then 20, pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 32 years in prison for his part in the drive-by shooting that ended Yhameek Johnson's life.
