On the evening of January 2, 2022, a 46-year-old male named Darnell Thomas was fatally shot in what police have described as a targeted attack. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. outside the Mohegan Commons apartment complex located at 90 North St. in Norwich, Connecticut. Though originally from New York, Thomas was known to be a frequent visitor to the Norwich area.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Thomas was quickly transported to William Backus
Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he ultimately succumbed to the gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
In the wake of the shooting, the Norwich Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Thomas's death. Investigators have been actively seeking information from the public to help piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting.
