First responders arrived at the scene around 8:45 a.m. to find a vehicle that had crashed and its driver, 20-year-old Black male Tyrik Walcott of Windsor, unconscious inside. As firefighters worked to extricate him from the car, they made a grim discovery: Walcott had sustained a gunshot wound.
Walcott was rushed to St.
Francis Hospital, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead. Investigators later confirmed that the fatal injury was the gunshot wound, not any injuries sustained from the crash itself. Evidence at the scene suggested that Walcott had been shot while inside his vehicle during an interaction with another individual. The discovery of drugs at the scene pointed to a potential link to narcotics activity, adding another layer to the unfolding investigation. Walcott's death was recorded as the second homicide in Hartford for the year 2022.
