Her death, which occurred in her home on Wynding Hills Road, was the result of multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, neck, and head.

Jacius, were both deceased inside the residence. The subsequent investigation by the state police Central District Major Crime Squad revealed a heartbreaking truth. The Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner ruled Doreen's death a homicide and determined that Thomas Jacius, a sergeant with the Avon Police Department for nearly 24 years, had died by suicide from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
