In the early morning hours of October 8, 2022, violence erupted outside a downtown Bridgeport bar, leaving 29-year-old Dominique Marquee Jones dead. The incident, which unfolded near the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and Broad Street, also resulted in injuries to two other men. Responding to reports of shots fired around 1:40 a.m., police discovered Jones unresponsive in a parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting painted a grim picture of a friendly encounter that turned deadly in a matter of moments. Surveillance footage from outside the former Murphy's Law bar showed Jones and his brother interacting with two men, identified as Joseph DeJesus and Kenneth Joyner. The men were seen shaking hands, but shortly after, a shootout began. Jones was struck in the torso and lower extremities, collapsing in a pool of blood amidst numerous spent bullet casings. His brother was also injured in the exchange of gunfire.
The investigation led by Bridgeport Police, with assistance from state and federal authorities, quickly identified suspects. On October 25, 2022, Joseph Omar DeJesus, also known as "Fat Joe," was arrested and charged with murder, assault, and several firearm offenses. A second suspect, Kenneth Joyner, was taken into custody in February 2025. He faced similar charges of murder, first-degree assault, and carrying a pistol without a permit. Authorities stated they did not anticipate any further arrests in connection with the fatal shooting.
