In the summer of 1944, a dedicated lawman's life was tragically cut short in the line of duty in Wynne, Arkansas. Deputy Sheriff Claude Lee Holt, a 53-year-old man, had served the Cross County Sheriff's Department for five years. On August 4th of that year, he was tasked with serving an arrest warrant for assault. While attempting to carry out this duty, Deputy Holt was fatally shot.
