On a Saturday night in Wynne, Arkansas, the lively atmosphere of a block party was shattered by gunfire, leaving a community in mourning and a family grieving the loss of Varian Campbell. The 27-year-old male was fatally wounded on April 13, 2024, during the chaotic event that took place near the intersection of Williams Avenue and Martin Luther King Street. The gathering, intended to promote unity, tragically became the scene of a violent outburst that also resulted in injuries to at least nine other individuals, ranging in age from 24 to 49.
In the aftermath of the shooting, which sent attendees scrambling for safety, Campbell was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Arkansas State Police were called in to lead the investigation into the deadly incident. Their efforts quickly identified several persons of interest, leading to the arrests of four suspects from Cross County within days of the shooting. The individuals taken into custody were identified as Quavarius Milon, 23, Tommie Frost, 18, Carl Washington, 21, and Cameron Crawford, 22.
The four men faced serious charges, including first-degree murder, nine counts of first-degree battery, and nine counts of engaging in violent criminal group activity. One of the suspects, Tommie Frost, has since pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and a firearm possession charge for his role in the death of Varian Campbell. He received a 20-year sentence for the murder and a concurrent 10-year sentence for the firearm charge. The other three men, Quaverius Milon, Carl Washington, and Cameron Crawford, are still awaiting their court dates to face the charges brought against them in connection with the fatal block party shooting.
