LaVecchia Franklin, a 28-year-old Black female, was viciously attacked in her own home on the evening of February 22, 2014. The assault, which took place at her residence at 720 S. Murphy, was brutal, leaving her with multiple gunshot and knife wounds. Emergency services rushed her to a local hospital, and she was later airlifted to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences for more advanced care. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, LaVecchia succumbed to her extensive injuries and passed away the following day, on February 23, 2014.
When El Dorado police officers arrived at the scene of the attack, they were met by 25-year-old Rashad G. Morgan, who was inside the home and armed with a small silver handgun. As law enforcement worked to secure the area, Morgan reportedly exited the house and aimed his weapon at the officers. After he ignored several commands to drop the firearm, police opened fire, critically injuring him. Morgan was then transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Following the investigation into the violent death of LaVecchia Franklin, who was also known as LaVecchia Dixon, authorities brought serious charges against Rashad G. Morgan.
