On a late spring day in 2014, the life of Todd Randall Landreth, a 48-year-old White/Caucasian male, was tragically cut short in Judsonia, Arkansas. On the afternoon of Friday, May 30, a 911 call reported a shooting at a residence on Oakdale Church Road. When deputies from the White County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they found that the suspect had already fled.
The victim, Landreth, was also not present at the location.
Authorities identified the suspect as 41-year-old Robert L. Vestal. An immediate search for both Vestal and Landreth began, involving multiple law enforcement agencies. The search continued into the next day. On Saturday morning, in a significant turn of events, Vestal met with White County detectives. He then led the investigators to a location north of Bald Knob, where they discovered Landreth's body. An autopsy later confirmed that Landreth had died from a fatal gunshot wound.
Following the discovery of Landreth's body, Robert L. Vestal was arrested and initially charged with first-degree murder. His bond was set at $750,000. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting continued as the legal process began.
Ultimately, the charge against Vestal was amended. On October 1, 2014, Robert L. Vestal's case was settled, and he was convicted of second-degree murder. For his role in the death of Todd Landreth, he received a sentence of 30 years in prison. He also received a concurrent sentence of five years for an aggravated assault charge.
