In the early hours of a Sunday morning in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the life of 28-year-old Michael Cook was tragically cut short. On July 20, 2014, police responded to a report of gunshots and discovered Cook lying in the middle of the street at the intersection of Campbell Road and Whippoorwill Lane. He had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
At the time of his discovery, Cook was not carrying any identification, prompting police to canvass the neighborhood and use his fingerprints in an attempt to identify him before turning to the public for assistance.
The investigation into the death of the White / Caucasian male progressed swiftly. A day after the shooting, law enforcement officials announced an arrest in connection with the case. A 17-year-old from Jacksonville, Robert Harris, was taken into custody and charged with capital murder and aggravated robbery for his alleged involvement in Michael Cook's death. The incident marked the seventh homicide in the city of North Little Rock that year.
Michael Cook was a resident of North Little Rock. He left behind his parents, two children, Anthony and Bentlie Cook, and five siblings. At the time of his passing, he was engaged to be married. Funeral services were held to honor his memory as the community and his family mourned their loss.
