On the evening of Sunday, July 10th, 60-year-old Karen Sivek, a beloved member of the community, was tragically killed in her home. Her life was cut short by an act of gun violence during what authorities would later describe as a home invasion. The investigation into her untimely death led law enforcement to two suspects. Davonta Diquan Morris, 21, and Carl Lavet Robinson Jr., also 21, both from Crossett, were arrested and accused in connection with the fatal home invasion that took place on West 8th Avenue. The charges brought against the two men were severe, including aggravated residential burglary, two counts of aggravated robbery, and first-degree murder. The incident not only resulted in the death of Karen Sivek but also involved the attempted murder of her granddaughter who was present during the terrifying ordeal.
In a development in the case, Davonta Diquan Morris entered a guilty plea in Drew County. His plea agreement involved admitting to aggravated residential burglary, two counts of aggravated robbery, attempted capital murder, and one count of first-degree murder. As part of his agreement, Morris consented to testify against his co-defendant, Carl Lavet Robinson Jr. The resolution of Morris's sentencing was set to await the outcome of Robinson's legal proceedings, which included a tentative trial date.
