On a fall day in 2016, the life of 50-year-old Victoria Lynn Smith came to a tragic end in a residence on County Road 920 in Alpena, Arkansas. On October 1st, deputies from the Carroll County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the home following a report of a possible hostage situation. After receiving no response from inside, they made entry into the dwelling.
Inside, they discovered the bodies of Victoria and her 54-year-old estranged husband, Aubry Smith. Both had sustained what appeared to be fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation that followed suggested a grim sequence of events stemming from a domestic situation that had escalated to a fatal conclusion. Given the circumstances, law enforcement did not search for any other suspects.
Victoria, a White female, had been a resident of the Harrison area for two decades after moving from Oklahoma. She was an employee at Tyson Foods and was a member of the Church of Christ. In the month leading up to her death, she had sought legal protection from her estranged husband. Court records indicate that she had filed for and was granted an order of protection against Aubry Smith in September of that year. A hearing for the order was scheduled for just days after she was found deceased.
