In the early hours of Christmas morning, a violent home invasion in Scott, Arkansas, shattered the peace of the holiday, leaving 49-year-old Arlin Wayne Nugent dead. The male victim was shot and killed shortly before 12:30 a.m. when two men forced their way into a residence on Johnson Road and opened fire on the people inside. Another individual was wounded in the attack.
The assailants not only committed murder but also abducted a 42-year-old woman from the home, escalating the brutal
holiday crime. This woman was later discovered by the banks of the Arkansas River in Little Rock, suffering from hypothermia after being thrown from a bridge into the frigid water. She survived the ordeal and was able to provide information to investigators. Her screams for help were heard by someone who then called 911.
The investigation swiftly led to the identification of two suspects. Richard Gilliam, 33, of Little Rock, was arrested and faced charges of capital murder, kidnapping, attempted capital murder, and aggravated residential burglary. He was held at the Lonoke County jail. The second suspect, 28-year-old Deymon Webb, later turned himself in to the Little Rock police. The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office stated that the two men entered the home and began shooting.
