In the early morning hours of January 4, 2018, a violent encounter at the Pinewood Apartments on West 6th Street in Brinkley, Arkansas, cut short the life of 33-year-old Xavier Parker. A Black male, Parker was a father to three children and was remembered by his family as a beloved individual. The tragic event, which unfolded around 7:15 a.m., was characterized by authorities as a domestic violence situation.
Gunshots shattered the morning quiet, leaving not only Parker fatally wounded but also injuring three other adults at the scene.
Responding officers from the Brinkley Police Department discovered a chaotic scene with multiple victims. While two of the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, a third individual received medical attention at the apartment complex for non-life-threatening injuries. Xavier Parker, however, was pronounced dead at the scene, his life brought to an abrupt and violent end. The news of his death sent shockwaves through his family, with his sister expressing the profound grief of losing a loved one in such a manner at the start of a new year.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, a suspect identified as 43-year-old James Frost, also of Brinkley, turned himself in to the Brinkley Police Department and was taken into custody. The investigation, which was later assisted by the Arkansas State Police, revealed that Frost had a prior criminal history, including a conviction for second-degree murder in 1994 for which he had served approximately a decade in prison. Friends and acquaintances expressed their surprise at his alleged involvement, noting that he had seemingly been doing well since his release. The case was set to be turned over to the prosecuting attorney for the consideration of formal criminal charges against Frost.
