Cierria Onukwube, a 21-year-old Black woman, was shot while driving in south Little Rock on the night of Sunday, March 18, 2018. Police were called around 10:38 p.m. to the area of 21st and Oak Street, where they found a vehicle that had left the roadway and come to rest between two homes. Inside were Onukwube and her passenger, 22-year-old Nathan Sullivan. Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Onukwube was rushed to the hospital in extremely critical condition and died the following afternoon, Monday, March 19, turning the case into a double homicide.
The attack appeared to be a targeted shooting of the occupied vehicle as it moved through the neighborhood. Authorities did not release suspect information in the immediate aftermath, and subsequent local summaries of 2018 homicides in Little Rock list the case without naming a suspect. Community remembrance pages note the basic facts of the shooting and Onukwube’s death but do not identify any perpetrator. As of later roundups and community case trackers, there have been no public reports of arrests tied to the killings of Onukwube and Sullivan.
