In the quiet afternoon of Wednesday, June 13, 2018, a tragic incident unfolded in Marion County, Arkansas, leading to the untimely death of 27-year-old James Lee Deen of Mountain Home. The event was reported as an accidental shooting.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office received a distressing 911 call at approximately 3:45 p.m. from Deen's mother, Toni Nordyke. She reported that her son had accidentally shot himself in the chest.
While on the phone, Nordyke, who was driving at the time, was instructed to pull over into the parking lot of the Animal Clinic of the Ozarks, located just east of the Flippin city limits on Highway 62/412.
Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the scene to render aid to Deen. Recognizing the severity of his injury, an Air-Evac medical helicopter was summoned and arrived within minutes to airlift him to Cox Hospital in Branson, Missouri, for urgent medical attention. Despite the swift response and efforts of medical teams, James Lee Deen succumbed to his injury while en route to the hospital.
Following the incident, the Marion County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, in conjunction with the Arkansas State Police, opened an investigation into the shooting. The authorities have consistently reported the incident as an accidental shooting, and there have been no reports of any arrests made or suspects sought in connection with his death. The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge of the firearm.
