On a Sunday evening in January 2017, the life of 20-year-old Mashon L. Jackson, a male, was cut short in a burst of gunfire near the intersection of 34th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Little Rock, Arkansas. Officers from the Little Rock Police Department were already in the area attending to another call when they heard the shots ring out. Rushing to the scene, they found Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was pronounced dead shortly after.
The incident marked the city's first homicide of the new year.
The scene of the shooting was chaotic, with evidence suggesting a significant exchange of gunfire. Investigators found that several houses and vehicles in the vicinity had been struck by bullets. In the immediate aftermath, police detained several individuals for questioning to piece together the events that led to Jackson's death.
