In a Bentonville, Arkansas motel room on November 20, 2018, the life of 22-year-old Tyler Scott Garska came to a tragic and violent end. The young man, a father of two, was discovered by a housekeeper at the Super 8 Motel on Walton Boulevard, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. His death was not an accident, but a homicide that authorities later determined was connected to a robbery.
The investigation into Garska's death quickly led police to a suspect, 18-year-old Walter
James Bryan of Rogers. Surveillance footage from the motel showed six individuals, including Garska and Bryan, entering room 223. Later, only five of them would be seen leaving; Garska was not among them. The subsequent police interviews with the other individuals present in the room yielded conflicting accounts of the events that transpired. Some witnesses initially suggested that Garska and Bryan had been engaged in a dangerous game of 'Russian roulette' with Bryan's revolver. However, another witness claimed to have seen Bryan shoot Garska following an argument.
As the investigation progressed, a clearer picture of the alleged crime began to emerge. It was revealed that after the shooting, Walter Bryan reportedly broke down and confessed to a friend that he had shot Garska. There were also allegations of witness intimidation, with Bryan reportedly threatening two of the witnesses to prevent them from speaking to the police. His sister, Shayla Bryan, who was also present in the motel room, was arrested for hindering apprehension after initially telling police she panicked and did not call for help after hearing the gunshot. Walter James Bryan was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of serious charges, including first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, intimidating a witness, and tampering with physical evidence. His bond was set at one million dollars. In the face of the charges against him, Bryan pleaded not guilty.
